How do donations help?

Your gifts are an investment in the health of your loved ones and neighbors. Your generosity directly supports a variety of programs and projects, expands access to care, boosts our financial sustainability, fosters community engagement and enables workforce development.

Why does a successful organization like Tidelands Health need to raise money?

South Carolina and the federal government set rates for many of the services offered at Tidelands Health. The population in the area is growing quickly, and our population is aging. We are seeing higher volumes and sicker patients. Because of this, the health system never achieves a large operating margin. Charitable support allows Tidelands Health to continue to provide the best possible health care. Without donations, we could not expand and renovate our facilities, offer new and needed services, acquire new and replacement technology and provide the community with the resources to stay healthy and safe.

Doesn’t the health system get most of its donated funds from large foundations and corporations?

Tidelands Health is indeed fortunate to have many local foundations and businesses provide support to the health system. However, most of our charitable support comes from individuals. National statistics reveal that approximately 90 percent of charitable contributions come from individuals, while foundations and corporations each account for about 5 percent of the total.
