Tidelands Health awards scholarships to current, future health care professionals 

Nine current and future health care professionals will start this academic year with a financial boost from Tidelands Health. 

Through its McRoy and Jo Skipper Initiative for Learning and Teaching, the health system awarded nearly $30,000 in scholarships to four local high school graduates and five current health care professionals pursuing health-related degrees at two- or four-year institutions. 

“At Tidelands Health, we are proud to provide these scholarships to support current and promising young health care professionals,” said Jeremy Stephens, executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Tidelands Health. “Our annual scholarship program is a direct investment into the health care workforce to serve our fast-growing region. We applaud this year’s recipients for their dedication to learning and advancing their skills and knowledge to serve others.” 

Four 2025 high school graduates each earned $1,000 scholarships: Olivia Sherman, St. James High School; Claire McKenzie, Williamsburg Academy; and Taylor Jones and Chandler Adams, both graduates of Georgetown High School. 

Five Tidelands Health employee partners each earned $5,000 scholarships. Lierrin Coulson and Jessica Wells are pursuing associate’s degrees in nursing, while Ebony Myers and Olivia Scott are in a diagnostic medical sonography program. Karyssa Costagliola is pursuing a bachelor’s degree. 

Scholarship recipients excelled in a competitive application process that included submission of an essay detailing their passion for health care and outlining their career goals.  

Scholarships are funded through donations to Tidelands Health, as well as contributions made during the health system’s annual Lights of Love holiday campaign. 

“Thanks to the generosity of our community, our not-for-profit health system can offer these scholarships to deserving individuals to help offset the cost of their education, which will pay dividends as they use their expertise to support health care delivery in our region,” said Beth Conatser, philanthropy director at Tidelands Health. “We extend a hearty congratulations to each scholarship recipient and look forward to supporting you as you start or further your health care career.”
