Give the gift of life this holiday season through a blood donation

Give the gift of life this holiday season by donating blood at an upcoming blood drive.

On Monday, Dec. 16, The Blood Connection bloodmobile will accept donations at three convenient locations:

  • Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, 4070 Highway 17 in Murrells Inlet, 2-4:30 p.m.

  • Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA, 12965 Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island, 3-6:30 p.m.

Schedule an appointment for the Dec. 16 blood drives at thebloodconnection.org

Donors also can give blood through the American Red Cross on Thursday, Dec. 26, at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, 4070 Highway 17 in Murrells Inlet, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Schedule an appointment at redcrossblood.org

Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome.

Tidelands Health encourages community members to donate blood this holiday season -- when blood donations typically decline but the need remains. Blood supplies gathered through donations are vital for patients with cancer, chronic diseases, cardiac conditions, those who experience physical trauma and more. A single blood donation has a shelf life of only 42 days, so donations from community members are continuously needed to keep supplies replenished.

Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Be sure to bring a valid ID. People who are feeling ill should postpone donating blood until they feel healthy and are symptom-free.
