Tidelands Health sponsoring four blood drives this month

Community members are encouraged to donate at one of four Tidelands Health blood drives this month.

A donor squeezes a heart-shaped ball while donating blood. The health system is partnering with its blood suppliers, the American Red Cross and The Blood Connection, to offer the following blood drives in February:

  • Friday, Feb. 3, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road, Georgetown. Schedule an appointment for this blood drive at redcrossblood.org.
  • Monday, Feb. 6, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, 4070 U.S. 17 in Murrells Inlet. Schedule an appointment for this blood drive at thebloodconnection.org.
  • Monday, Feb. 20, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Schedule an appointment for this blood drive at thebloodconnection.org.
  • Monday, Feb. 27, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA, 12965 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island. Schedule an appointment for this blood drive at thebloodconnection.org.

Blood supplies are vital for patients with cancer, chronic diseases, cardiac conditions, those who have experienced a trauma and more. A single blood donation has a shelf life of only 42 days, according to the American Red Cross, so donations from community members are continuously needed to keep supplies replenished.

Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Be sure to bring a valid ID. People who are feeling ill should postpone donating blood until they feel healthy and are symptom-free. Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome.

“We rely on the generosity of our community members who donate at blood drives to maintain sufficient blood supplies to meet the needs of our patients,” said Ashley Capps, vice president of nursing and operations at Tidelands Health. “We hope many will make the short time needed to donate blood during our upcoming blood drives. Your donation helps save lives.”
