Donate blood in March, receive a $10 prepaid card from the American Red Cross

Community members have three chances this month to donate blood at a Tidelands Health blood drive.

  • Monday, March 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, 4070 Highway 17, Murrells Inlet
  • Monday, March 27, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA, 12965 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island
  • Friday, March 31, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road, Georgetown

Those who donate blood in March at these and other American Red Cross blood drives can receive a $10 Visa prepaid card by email and will be automatically entered for a chance to win a $3,000 Visa prepaid card. The American Red Cross is offering the incentive to help donors with rising consumer costs.

Blood supplies are vital for patients with cancer, chronic diseases, cardiac conditions, those who have experienced a trauma and more. A single blood donation has a shelf life of only 42 days, according to the American Red Cross, so donations from community members are continuously needed to keep supplies replenished.

Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Be sure to bring a valid ID. People who are feeling ill should postpone donating blood until they feel healthy and are symptom-free. Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome.
