Give the gift of life this holiday season

Give the gift of life this holiday season with a donation at a blood drive next week.

Tidelands Health is partnering with its blood suppliers - the American Red Cross and The Blood Connection - to sponsor two blood drives in December:hands holding a red heart

  • Monday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Blood Connection bloodmobiles will be in the parking lots at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, 4070 U.S. 17 in Murrells Inlet, and Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road in Georgetown. Schedule an appointment to donate at donate.thebloodconnection.org.
  • Friday, Dec. 9, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The American Red Cross bloodmobile will be set up in the parking lot at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road. Schedule an appointment to donate at redcrossblood.org.

Tidelands Health encourages community members to donate blood this holiday season -- when blood donations typically decline but the need remains. Blood supplies are routinely used to treat accident victims, cancer patients, those who need blood transfusions and more.

“Our community is so generous year-round taking the time to donate blood to help their neighbors, co-workers, relatives and more who rely on blood products for their survival and healing,” said Ashley Capps, vice president of nursing and operations at Tidelands Health. “This holiday season, we encourage those who are able to give the gift of life by making a blood donation at one of our blood drives.”

Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Be sure to bring a valid ID. People who are feeling ill should postpone donating blood until they feel healthy and are symptom-free.
