Tidelands Health plans Safe Summer Kickoff family vaccination event on Saturday as COVID-19 vaccine availability extends to those 12 and older
Tidelands Health will begin offering the COVID-19 vaccine to children 12 and older this week and will hold a special family vaccination event on Saturday to administer vaccine and answer parents’ questions.
With the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s authorization to extend eligibility of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to those ages 12 to 15, Tidelands Health will host a “Safe Summer Kickoff” Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Inlet Square Mall in Murrells Inlet to offer the no-cost vaccine to families. Pediatricians will be on hand throughout the event to answer questions, and everyone who is vaccinated will receive a coupon for a free ice cream from Sonic Drive-In.
Children 12 and older can also get the vaccine at the health system’s regional vaccination sites in Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet and Georgetown during regular operating hours beginning Thursday.
“The expansion of vaccine eligibility to kids ages 12 to 15 is another important step as we work to get as many individuals as possible protected from the deadly COVID-19 virus,” said Dr. Lucretia Carter, director of pediatrics at Tidelands Health. “The Pfizer vaccine has proven to be safe and effective, and we are eager to start administering it. Eligibility for the vaccine arrives just as childen are about to start their summer camps and activities. This will help families enjoy their summer safely.”
Appointments are available for Saturday’s Safe Summer Kickoff at tidelandshealth.org/vaccine or by calling 1-833-6-MYSHOT. Walk-ins are also welcome throughout the event. Inlet Square Mall is located at 10125 Frontage Road in Murrells Inlet.
Everyone who is vaccinated at the Safe Summer Kickoff will be scheduled for a second-dose appointment in three weeks. There is no out-of-pocket cost for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Pediatricians from area pediatrics practices will be on hand during the Safe Summer Kickoff to answer parents’ questions.
“We know parents may have questions – that’s natural,” Dr. Carter said. “Pediatricians will be at the Safe Summer Kickoff all day to answer individual questions and provide any other information parents may need in considering the COVID-19 vaccine for their children.”
Parents who plan on getting themselves or their kids vaccinated during the Saturday event are encouraged to save time by completing patient forms in advance. A consent form is required for every patient under 16. Parents can download the paperwork at tidelandshealth.org/safesummer and bring completed documents to the event.
In addition to the Safe Summer Kickoff, anyone 12 and older can get the COVID-19 vaccine beginning Thursday at Tidelands Health’s regional vaccination sites:
