50,000 doses and counting | Tidelands Health to hit milestone in COVID-19 vaccine distribution
Tidelands Health will reach another major milestone in COVID-19 vaccine distribution Thursday when it administers its 50,000th dose of the lifesaving vaccine.
The health system has aggressively rolled out the vaccine since it became available less than four months ago, setting up three regional vaccination sites, hiring additional staff and creating streamlined systems to make it as convenient as possible for individuals to schedule their vaccine appointments.
A day after everyone 16 and older in South Carolina became eligible to receive the vaccine, Tidelands Health will administer the milestone dose and is continuing to encourage everyone to get the vaccine to protect themselves and their loved ones.
“These 50,000 doses represent tremendous progress in protecting individuals and helping us all get closer to some sense of normalcy,” said Gayle Resetar, chief operating officer. “But we still have many more people to reach with this vaccine, so we are not letting up.
“Distribution of this vaccine is the way we will finally end this pandemic and get our economy in full swing and our lives back. It will remain a priority.”
Tidelands Health has led the region in vaccine distribution, helping propel Georgetown and Horry counties to rank second and third, respectively, in South Carolina in rate of vaccination of residents.
Individuals have three options for scheduling an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine:
CALL: Call 1-833-6-MYSHOT (1-833-669-7468). Representatives are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
CLICK: Schedule a vaccine appointment online at tidelandshealth.org/vaccine using the hospital patient portal. You don’t have to be a Tidelands Health patient to use this tool.
CHAT: Use the online chat feature at tidelandshealth.org/vaccine. Chat scheduling is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
Appointments for the required second dose of vaccine are scheduled when individuals book their first-dose appointment.
Tidelands Health continues to offer convenient ways for everyone to get the vaccine. Evening appointments are now available to accommodate busy schedules.
In addition, a mass vaccination event, by appointment only, is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, at Tidelands Health Medical Park at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach. Book an appointment for this event at tidelandshealth.org/vaccine or by calling 1-833-6-MYSHOT.
“Let’s keep the momentum going,” Resetar said. “Since the state expanded eligibility, we’ve seen a surge of appointments scheduled, and we want that to continue. We encourage everyone 16 and older to get scheduled and get vaccinated.”
