A sweet delivery: The Hershey Co. donates 150+ cases of candy to Tidelands Health
What a sweet delivery.
On Tuesday, more than 150 cases of Hershey’s candy – everything from Hershey’s Kisses and Kit Kats to York Peppermint Patties - were delivered to Tidelands Health to buoy the spirits of the health system’s team in the battle against COVID-19.
The donation is one of many ways The Hershey Co. has supported COVID-19 response efforts around the world, said Mark Dieffenbach, who coordinated the gift as director of specialty channels for the company.
“What first responders and hospital staff have to do — and have done — on behalf of the American people is extraordinary,” Dieffenbach said. “The little part we can play in bringing moments of goodness and smiles to people is something we take pride in.”
Dieffenbach said Tidelands Health immediately came to mind as a recipient. His daughter, Brittany Dieffenbach, is a physician assistant at Tidelands Health Orthopedics at Georgetown, where she has practiced since mid-October.
Brittany Dieffenbach said she was excited to learn about the donation and is hopeful it will help boost spirits during a challenging time. As the COVID-19 pandemic has progressed, she has kept her parents informed about the health system’s comprehensive response.
“Our health system has really come together as a team, and I’ve told them how proud I am of that,” she said. “I think my dad really respects everyone in the health care field for being on the front lines and for caring for others.”
Now that the pallets of candy have been delivered, the tasty treats will be distributed across Tidelands Health care locations to be enjoyed by the health system’s team members, said Pam Maxwell, senior vice president and chief nursing officer.
She said the donation aligns well with Pennsylvania-based Hershey Co.’s efforts to encourage people to “spread love from a distance” during the pandemic.
“At Tidelands Health, we’re certainly feeling that love,” Maxwell said. “This donation is going to bring mounds of joy to our team.”
