Luau-themed swim meet to offer fun, friendly competition
Enjoy a taste of Hawaii in Pawleys Island.
Swimmers from across the region are invited to the “Luau Party,” a just-for-fun swim meet on Wednesday, June 19, at Tidelands HealthPoint Center for Health and Fitness, 12965 Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island.
The all-ages, Hawaiian-themed event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with warm-ups. At 6 p.m., swimmers will be divided into groups based on age and experience to compete in 25-yard heats of backstroke, freestyle or breaststroke. The winners of each heat will receive a ribbon at the conclusion of the meet.
After the competition ends, lei-adorned swimmers will enjoy a luau party. Younger swimmers can play with beach balls and floating tubes in the center’s warm-water exercise pool while older children play volleyball in the lap pool.
The cost to participate is $7 per swimmer through June 18 and $10 on the day of the event. Membership to Tidelands HealthPoint is not required.
Swimmers must be able to complete at least one 25-yard length of the pool without stopping. Young swimmers can wear a provided instructional belt and all participants are encouraged to wear goggles.
