Tidelands Health to serve as presenting sponsor of three Relay For Life events
The region’s most comprehensive provider of cancer care is teaming up with the American Cancer Society to serve as the presenting sponsor of three upcoming Relay For Life events in Horry and Georgetown counties.
From Georgetown to Myrtle Beach, specialists with the Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network partner with patients and their families every day in the fight against cancer.
As a natural extension of that work, Tidelands Health will serve as presenting sponsor of Relay For Life events in Conway, Andrews and Myrtle Beach in April and May.
“Every day, we witness the life-altering impact of a cancer diagnosis on patients and their families,” said Wanda Prevatte, vice president of outpatient services at Tidelands Health. “We also have the privilege of helping thousands of area residents navigate their cancer journey each year.
“Supporting Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society is another way we can help combat the disease and support cancer patients.”
Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, said Troy Matheny, community manager of the society’s local chapter. Participants take turns walking around a track or path for up to 12 hours.
Funds raised support cancer research and provide a variety of direct help to people in treatment. For example, the cancer society provides wigs to people in chemotherapy and offers a “Look Good Feel Better” program that teaches beauty techniques to help cancer patients face cancer diagnoses with greater confidence.
“We are extremely grateful to Tidelands Health for this support,” Matheny said. “The partnership is especially meaningful because of the health system’s prominent role in cancer care within our region.”
The Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network offers cancer screenings, diagnosis and a broad range of treatment services including chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network locations in Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet and Georgetown, operated in affiliation with MUSC Health, serve as hubs of the regional network.
Tidelands Health, which is accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, offers patients a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care that features personal attention from a wide variety of care professionals including oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, nutritionists, pharmacists and more.
Tidelands Health will serve as a presenting sponsor at the Relay For Life on April 7 at Coastal Carolina University, at the April 27 Relay For Life at the Andrews High School in Andrews and at the May 5 Relay For Life at Grand Park in The Market Common area of Myrtle Beach.
