Tidelands Health partners with American Cancer Society as presenting sponsor of three regional Relay For Life events

All across the region, from Georgetown to Myrtle Beach, Tidelands Health specialists partner with patients and their families every day in the fight against cancer. Now, the region’s largest health care system has teamed up with the American Cancer Society and will serve as the presenting sponsor of three Relay For Life events to be held in Horry and Georgetown counties in April.

The decision to support community Relay For Life events was a natural fit for Tidelands Health, said Wanda Prevatte, vice president of outpatient services and chief compliance officer. The health system treats more than 1,200 patients with new cancer diagnoses every year.

“A cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming for patients and their loved ones,” Prevatte said. “Supporting Relay For Life is an extension of our work as we stand alongside our patients on the journey to recovery.”

Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, said Troy Matheny, community manager of the society’s local chapter. Participants take turns walking around a track or path for up to 12 hours. Funds raised support cancer research and provide a variety of direct help to people in treatment.

“We are humbled and extremely grateful to Tidelands Health for this support,” Matheny said. “The partnership is especially meaningful because of the health system’s prominent regional role in cancer care.”

Tidelands Health offers cancer screenings, diagnosis and a broad range of cancer services including chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Care locations extend from the Tidelands Coastal Carolina Breast Center in Myrtle Beach to the Tidelands Francis B. Ford Cancer Treatment Center in Georgetown.

Tidelands Health will serve as a presenting sponsor at the Relay for Life on April 8 at Coastal Carolina University, at the April 22 Relay For Life at the Grand Park Athletic Complex in Myrtle Beach and at the April 28 Relay For Life at Andrews High School in Andrews.
