A Harvard-educated orthopedic surgeon and former team physician for the Pittsburgh Pirates has joined the Tidelands Health board of trustees.
Dr. William Greer, who practices medicine at Tidelands Health Orthopedics in Murrells Inlet, is the newest member of the volunteer board.
“Dr. Greer brings tremendous experience and knowledge to the board of trustees,” said H. McRoy Skipper Jr., CPA, chairman of the board. “He is widely respected for his leadership and the care he provides to patients. His input will be extremely helpful as we plan for the continued growth and success of Tidelands Health.”
Dr. Greer earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University before earning his medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and an orthopedics fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
He holds a certification in orthopedics and a subspecialty certification in orthopedic sports medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Greer is a leading member of the Tidelands Health Sports Medicine Institute, a team of clinicians with decades of experience treating high school, college and professional athletes. He serves as a team physician for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
During his tenure from 2006-2008 as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team’s medical staff was named the best in Major League Baseball by Baseball Prospectus magazine.
Dr. Greer specializes in rotator cuff repairs, shoulder instability, shoulder replacement, elbow reconstruction, ACL repair and knee and ankle injuries, as well as minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, ankle and elbow.
