Tidelands Waccamaw in top10 percent nationally for outstanding patient experience

Positive patient comments are the key reason why Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital has earned the prestigious Outstanding Patient Experience Award for the sixth consecutive year, ranking in the Top 10 percent of hospitals nationally for providing patients with an outstanding experience.
The distinction is by Healthgrades, the nation’s leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, and is based on patient surveys.
“Coming to the hospital, whether for an outpatient procedure or as an inpatient, causes stress and anxiety,” said Gary Life, Tidelands Health manager of service excellence. “We understand that and have worked to create a culture that embraces patient and family centered care. It comes down to a very simple concept -- recognizing that our patients and their families are the focus of all that we do, from explaining every medication clearly and being responsive to our patients’ needs to keeping rooms clean and their surroundings quiet so they can rest and heal.”
Tidelands Waccamaw is one of 448 recipients of the 2016 award, which recognizes hospitals for providing outstanding patient experience based on 10 measures, including communication with doctors and nurses, hospital cleanliness, noise levels and medication and post-discharge care instructions. The information is from patient surveys conducted by HCAHPS, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, between April 2014 and March 2015. HCAHPS surveys are required by the federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
