February 15, 2016
Tidelands Health hospitals have been ranked tops in the state for women’s health for 2016.
Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital is ranked No. 1 in South Carolina for medical excellence in women’s health, while Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital is ranked No. 2. The ratings are by CareChex, a division of Comparion Medical Analytics, a medical quality rating system for consumers, payers and employers.
“These recognitions show that women in the Tidelands region have access to high-quality, patient-centered care close to home,” said Dana Kiser, clinical director of women’s services at Tidelands Health. “From caring for new moms and their babies to taking care of women at all stages of life, we strive to provide safety, quality and comfort so we can exceed our patients’ expectations.”
The CareChex recognitions are among several that Tidelands Health has received for women’s health. Both Tidelands Waccamaw and Tidelands Georgetown have earned the prestigious Baby Friendly designation, and Tidelands Waccamaw is a Joint Commission childbirth center of excellence.
In addition to recognizing women’s health services at Tidelands Health, CareChex has also given the organization high marks for medical excellence and patient safety in a broad array of services. Tidelands Waccamaw is ranked in the Top 10 percent nationally and regionally for medical excellence in overall hospital care and orthopedic care and is rated No. 1 in the market for overall hospital care, overall medical care, overall surgical care, gastrointestinal care, general surgery, orthopedic care, hip fracture repair, spinal surgery and spinal fusion.
For patient safety, Tidelands Waccamaw is ranked in the Top 10 percent nationally, regionally and at the state level for overall hospital care, gastrointestinal care, general surgery and orthopedic care. Tidelands Waccamaw is also No. 1 in the market for overall hospital care, overall medical care, general surgery, vascular safety, orthopedic care and spinal fusion.
Tidelands Georgetown is recognized as No. 1 in the market for medical excellence in heart failure treatment.
CareChex’s medical excellence distinction is an overall measure of quality for a hospital or health system and encompasses performance across risk-adjusted mortality rates, risk-adjusted complication rates, inpatient quality indicators and patient safety indicators from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and from patient safety scores derived from Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and System patient satisfaction scores.
The patient safety designation is based on patient safety performance data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Thane Forthman, president and CEO of CareChex, said Tidelands Health has demonstrated its ability to provide high-quality care to the communities it serves.
“To receive an award for medical excellence and for patient safety is an outstanding accomplishment for both the physicians and hospital staffs,” Dr. Forthman said. “We congratulate them on their commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.”
The CareChex Awards are among several that Tidelands Health has earned for patient quality and safety. In December, Tidelands Waccamaw was named one of the nation’s 98 top hospitals based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performances on patient safety and quality.
Tidelands Waccamaw also was named one of America’s 100 best hospitals for orthopedic surgery in 2015 and was rated among the Top 10 percent in the nation for overall orthopedic services by Healthgrades, the nation’s leading independent health care quality review group.
Tidelands Georgetown has been rated five stars by Healthgrades for treatment of heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergencies and defibrillator procedures in 2016.
