WCH, GMH earn Quest recognitions

One of the nation’s leading health care improvement companies has recognized Waccamaw Community Hospital and Georgetown Memorial Hospital for outstanding care and safety.

WCH was named a Quest Finalist by Premier Inc. for safety, patient satisfaction and efficiency, a recognition that puts the Murrells Inlet facility among the top-performing hospitals in the nation. Specifically, WCH was cited for reducing the average cost of care; using evidence-based measures to care for surgery patients as well as those diagnosed with conditions such as heart failure and pneumonia; increasing patient satisfaction; and reducing preventable harm events and mortality.

GMH earned the Partnership for Patients Award for its success in reducing harm events for patients as part of the federal Partnerships for Patients Initiative.  The award is based on transparency, innovation and participation in educational initiatives.

Theresa Trivette, director of outcomes measurement for Georgetown Hospital System, said  the recognition puts WCH among the top 25 percent in the nation and that the awards reflect both hospitals’ commitment to transparency, trust and safety.

“Every day at our hospitals, we work to deliver the very best care, adhering to national standards for safety, quality and efficiency,” Trivette said. “At a time when consumers are becoming more conscious of health care costs and safety, this recognition is even more meaningful because it validates that we are working, and succeeding, at providing high quality from the moment our patients enter our doors until they leave.”

Premier Inc. is an alliance of approximately 3,000 U.S. hospitals and 110,000 other health care companies and providers whose mission is to transform health care through better care and outcomes at a lower cost. Premier and leading hospitals created the Quest collaborative, which provides framework for hospitals to share and monitor data and best practices for quality, patient safety and efficiency.  Nationally, costs of inpatient care have increased by about 37 percent, versus 14 percent for Quest hospitals.
