Learn how to overcome complications of overweight at 2 free events

The medical complications of overweight and what can be done about them is the topic of two free events for the public Tuesday, June 3, in Murrells Inlet.

At noon, Dr. John Orchard, a gastroenterologist with Waccamaw Gastroenterology, will be the featured speaker at a physician seminar at Wachesaw Conference Center across from Waccamaw Community Hospital. Sponsored by Georgetown Hospital System (GHS), the seminar will last about an hour and include opportunities for participants to ask questions.  Lunch will be served, but space is limited. Immediately after the seminar, A GHS dietitian will hold an information session on NuMed, a new nutrition and medical weight management program being offered by GHS. Supervised by a physician, NuMed is a comprehensive wellness program that encourages opportunities for weight loss and promotes a healthy lifestyle.  The program offers behavior modification, meal replacements, medication and bariatric surgery and is individualized to fit the needs of each client.

Interested persons can attend one or both of the sessions, but must call if they plan to attend the noon seminar. No advance registration is requires for the 1 p.m. information session. Wachesaw Conference Center is located at 4367 Riverwood Drive.
