GHS holding two blood drives in March

Friday, March 07, 2014

Georgetown, S.C. – Help replenish our community’s blood supply and donate blood at one of Georgetown Hospital System’s two blood drives in March.

A blood drive is planned for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Wachesaw Conference Center across from Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet. Wachesaw Conference Center is located at 4367 Riverwood Drive.

A second is set for 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19. It will take place at the building occupied by GHS offices at 160 Willbrook Blvd. across from the Litchfield Exchange.

Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment at Wachesaw by phone, call 843.652.1135. To make an appointment for Willbrook, call 843.652.8200. Appointments at both sites also can be made at

According to Red Cross statistics, each year about 4 million people in the United States need blood. The current need is acute because officials say wintry weather in January and February has sharply reduced the blood supply for the area. Donors also have an extra incentive to give. Each donor’s name will be entered into a Southeastern regional drawing for a $1,500 gift card.

In addition having a valid ID, blood donors must be healthy, be at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds.
