Georgetown, S.C. — The Marketing & Communications Department at Georgetown Hospital System has earned national recognition for its internal and external electronic and print communications.
The department received two Gold Aster Awards and one Silver Aster, considered among the top awards in health care communications. Healthwaves, the GHS quarterly magazine, received a Silver for the second consecutive year; Healthmatters, a monthly e-newsletter, and Vital Briefs, a weekly electronic newsletter for GHS employees, earned Gold Asters. The department also received a Bronze Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report for its new website for Georgetown Physician Services.
Marketing & Communications Director Ronda Wilson said she is extraordinarily proud of the department’s achievements.
“I am so proud of our team,” Wilson said. “Thanks to their creativity and strategic planning, our marketing and communications program has been elevated to an entirely new level. One award is quite an accomplishment, but three Asters and a Bronze HealthCare Advertising Award show that our entire communications program is recognized for excellence in design, messaging and effectiveness by our peers around the country.”
Healthwaves, which is mailed to households in the GHS service area, features GHS initiatives that are relevant to the community, profiles on physicians and their specialties, as well as human interest stories on patients. Healthmatters includes headlines with links to GHS stories of community interest and a calendar of events. Vital Briefs is a weekly internal e-newsletter that was created to build a sense of community and, along with the other communications vehicles, support the GHS strategic initiatives.
The newly created website features videos and background information, including education and areas of specialty, for GPS physicians in dermatology, family medicine, gastroenterology, oncology and orthopaedics and general surgery.
The Healthcare Advertising Awards are among the most prestigious in the field of health care marketing. Nearly 4,000 entries were submitted. A national panel of judges granted awards to those entries that exemplify quality, creativity and message effectiveness.
