Learn how to shop healthy at GHS Supermarket Tours

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Georgetown, S.C. -- Grocery shopping is fraught with stress, thanks to soaring food prices and aisles packed with Halloween candy. Toss in the challenge of picking foods with a healthy balance of carbs, fiber and fat, and it’s enough to send us straight to the Good Humor Bars.

Take the free Supermarket Tours led by Georgetown Hospital System dietitians instead. The hour-long tours are planned for Kroger in Garden City and Walmart in Georgetown this month.

The Garden City Kroger tour is set for noon Wednesday, Oct. 17. Kroger is located at 2939 Highway 17, 29576.

The Walmart supermarket tour in Georgetown will take place at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Walmart is located at 1310 North Fraser St., 29440.

Participants will learn how to read labels and ingredients, pick healthy snacks, shop on a budget and how marketing influences our food choices.

Space is limited, so contact 843-520-8288 to register.
