GHS Names Three New Members of Board of Trustees

Georgetown, SC Georgetown Hospital System (GHS) officials today announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Trustees.

Michael A. “Tony” Jordan,  Marthena Grate Morant, Ed. D. and D. A. (Dan) Scheffing are the newest members of the GHS Board of Trustees, according to Charles A. Moore,  GHS Board chair, who made the announcement.

“We are very pleased to welcome these three new board members.  They have diverse and interesting backgrounds, talents and experience and each is highly involved in the community,” Mr. Moore said.

Mr. Jordan, who lives in Georgetown, is the owner of Tony Jordan Insurance Agency, Inc., USI payroll, UniStaff H/R Administrative Services Inc. and The UPS Store in Georgetown.  He serves on the Georgetown County YMCA board and is a charter member of Georgetown Rotary Breakfast Club.  He was named Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 2005 by the Chamber of Commerce and received the Red Cross Clara Barton Award for Meritorious Leadership in 1997. He and his family are members of the Georgetown Church of Christ.

Dr. Morant is Executive Director for Human Resources for the Georgetown County School District and has held numerous other positions  including teacher, assistant principal, principal and Director of Human Resources since joining the Georgetown County School District in 1979.   Dr. Morant is an officer of South Carolina Association of School Administrators/Personnel Division.  A Georgetown resident, she has been a member of the  Advisory Board of United Way, the Advisory Board of State PACE Committee and Director of the Youth Department at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.  She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Mr. Scheffing, a resident of Andrews, has been Senior Project manager for Sabine and Waters, an integrated forestry/environmental consulting firm since 2008. He is a member of numerous organizations including the Scenic Black River commission, South Carolina Wildlife Federal Board of Directors, Georgetown County Economic Development Commission, Francis P. Bunnell Foundation Community Grants Selection Committee and Andrews Lion Club.  Mr. Scheffing is an Elder at Andrews Presbyterian Church.  He was named Georgetown County Economic Development Ambassador in 2001.

Georgetown Hospital System’s Board of Trustees is the organization’s governing body charged with providing leadership and directing facility and service growth designed to meet the current and long-term healthcare needs of the communities it serves. 

“Our board members devote many hours of time to our organization and our community.  They serve tirelessly and on a volunteer basis and are charged with making decisions that have a significant impact on the healthcare landscape in our communities,” said Bruce P. Bailey, GHS President and CEO.

In addition to the three new board members announced today, other Georgetown Hospital System board members include Charles A. Moore, chairman; H. McRoy Skipper, vice chairman; Richard J. Ferdon Jr., secretary; Julian A. Reynolds Jr, treasurer; Alan S. Altman; E.. Victor Archambeau, MD; Victor M. Diaz-Gonzalez, MD; Francis B. “Jeepy” Ford Jr.;  Judith K. Ingle; Walter F. Johnson III, Robert L. Jones and J. Edward Norris III.
