Georgetown Hospital System Recognized as an American Heart Association Start! Fit-Friendly Company

Georgetown, SC— For two consecutive years, Georgetown Hospital System has been recognized as a Platinum-Level Start! Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association’s Start! initiative for helping employees eat better and move more.

“Employee wellness and physical activity are important priorities at Georgetown Hospital System. We are honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association’s Start! Movement for two years in a row,” said Bruce Bailey, CEO at Georgetown Hospital System, “We’re committed to providing the resources necessary to keep our workforce healthy.”

Criteria for recognition as a Platinum level employer includes:

·         Offer employees physical activity options in the workplace

·         Increase healthy eating options in the workplace

·         Promote a wellness culture in the workplace

·         Implement American Heart Association criteria in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture

·         Demonstrate measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness

GHS employees participate in a company Wellness WoRx Program. Healthy eating options are offered in the cafeteria, along with special dietary needs meals. Company sponsored events such as walks and sports activities promote participation in physical activity. In addition, educational opportunities are available to employees through the At Work Weight Watchers program, Create Your Weight program, numerous Lunch and Learn events as well as nutrition classes and consultations with registered dietitians.

The Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Program is a catalyst for positive change in the American workforce for helping companies makes their employees’ health and wellness a priority.
