Georgetown Hospital System Dieticians Plan Supermarket Tours

Georgetown, SC - In celebration of National Nutrition Month , during March, Georgetown Hospital System Dietitians are offering free grocery store tours at local supermarkets.

The tours are offered at various times and locations throughout Georgetown and Horry counties. Tours will be held March 15 at 6 p.m. at Food Lion in Pawleys Island, March 23 at 10 a.m. at Walmart in Georgetown, March 23 at 10 a.m. at Kroger in Garden City and March 24 at 9 a.m. at Bi-Lo at the Beach, Garden City.

Tours begin in the produce section of the store and proceed through selected aisles and locations, spotlighting healthy food products and wise shopping tips.

Participants will learn how to choose foods using the Nutrition Facts Panel and basic guidelines for healthy eating.

During the tours, the dietitians will also address special diet considerations such as carbohydrate control, fat reduction, trans-fatty acids, and sodium. Stores will spotlight “GHS Dietitian approved foods” via an aisle/product label throughout the month of March as reinforcement for shoppers.
