A new era of advanced care
Where there is a need, Tidelands Health is growing to meet it.
As the population of our region continues to increase, so does the array of services our not-for-profit health care system provides.

Our region’s largest health care provider, we are also its most advanced – offering a broad and increasing range of specialty care such as endocrinology, gastroenterology and neurosciences, state-of-the-art treatment facilities and leading technology such as robotic-assisted surgery.
Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network, our region’s most comprehensive provider of care, is the first full affiliate of the new MUSC Hollings Cancer Network, a fully integrated approach that offers additional clinical and direct patient benefits in addition to enhanced connectivity to MUSC’s research and education expertise.
Meanwhile, we are also partnering with MUSC Health for plans to expand local access to advanced cardiac care, recruiting specialists and adding new services including a comprehensive open-heart surgery program and the construction of a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab at the planned Tidelands Health Carolina Bays Hospital.
At Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, we launched Tidelands Health Skilled Care, a specialized program that helps care for hospitalized patients who need more time to heal before discharge. With a care plan tailored to each patient’s unique needs, the Tidelands Health Skilled Care team provides treatment and therapy while helping patients with daily activities to assist them in achieving their recovery goals.
As we have grown, our commitment to quality and safety has remained unwavering. In 2022, Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital and Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital were both recognized for outstanding performance in patient safety with Certified Zero Harm Awards, and both hospitals are also designated as "age-friendly" for excellence in the care of older patients.
In addition, Tidelands Waccamaw again earned national recognition as a U.S. News & World Report “High-Performing” hospital and became the second hospital in the U.S. and the first in South Carolina to earn advanced certification in perinatal care from The Joint Commission.

A commitment to service
Tidelands Health engages the community to promote better health.
At Tidelands Health, we believe our responsibility to the community stretches outside the walls of our care locations. Our mission compels us to support dozens of community organizations and devote significant resources to initiatives that are improving the health of the population at large.

Perhaps our most well-known community health initiative is Tidelands Community Care Network, a public-private partnership that helps break down barriers and provide access to medical care for uninsured and underinsured adults.
In recognition of its tremendous positive impact on the community, Tidelands Community Care Network was recognized by the South Carolina Office of Rural Health as its 2022 Outstanding Community Health Project or Initiative.
The program is generously supported by partners such as The Duke Endowment, which has granted more than $3 million to support Tidelands Community Care Network since the program's inception in 2011, and the Leon Levine Foundation, which has awarded a total of $100,000 toward the program to increase enrollment in care coordination.
Tidelands Health also offers innovative programs such as A Walk in the Garden, a unique collaboration between Tidelands Health and Brookgreen Gardens that helps eligible patients increase physical activity to improve their health, and Better for Life, a free membership program specifically designed for individuals 50 and older.
Tidelands Health was honored in 2022 with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce's Community Service Award for leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Investing in our community’s health care workforce
As one of our region’s largest private employers, Tidelands Health invests millions of dollars annually in our workforce and, thus, the regional economy. But our contribution goes far beyond salaries and benefits.

At Tidelands Health, we believe we have a responsibility to help grow and strengthen our region’s workforce. To achieve that goal, we continually invest in the growth of our team, recognize team members for their accomplishments and pursue initiatives to develop health care professionals to serve our growing region.
In recognition of our investment in employee well-being, satisfaction and fulfillment, Tidelands Health has been named one of the top places to work in health care - joining organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Medicine and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Tidelands Waccamaw and Tidelands Georgetown have both been redesignated Pathway to Excellence hospitals, recognizing the health system's commitment to providing an outstanding workplace environment for nurses.
Thousands of students attended Pathways 2 Possibilities.
Through the Tidelands Health MUSC Family Medicine Residency Program, a three-year program that provides clinical training and education to medical school graduates, Tidelands Health is cultivating the next generation of physicians to serve our area. In 2022, physician residents traveled to Uganda - gaining firsthand experience treating patients in other parts of the world and forging a new path of educational opportunities for the residency program.
Working with our partners at Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Coastal Carolina University, local school districts and other organizations, the health system also offers a wide variety of programs for middle-school, high-school and college students, mentorship opportunities and other ways to learn alongside Tidelands Health team members behind the scenes.
For example, the health system serves as the presenting sponsor and organizer of the health science pathway at the Pathways 2 Possibilities career expo at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Each year, the event draws thousands of eighth graders from 10 South Carolina counties to explore career pathways.
In addition to our focus on developing health care professionals, Tidelands Health also actively recruits new team members to support our fast-growing region’s health care needs.
Tidelands Health Foundation

The Tidelands Health Foundation works in partnership with Tidelands Health - our region’s largest health care provider - to offer new technologies, modern facilities and increased access to health care services in the coastal Tidelands region of South Carolina.
Founded in 1990, the Tidelands Health Foundation relies on the generous spirit of our loyal supporters – individuals, corporations and others – to donate needed funds to continue the critical mission of providing high-quality health and wellness services in Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties.
