Both Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital and Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital have earned certification by the Joint Commission for total hip and total knee replacement and as advanced primary stroke centers. Both hospitals are designated Baby Friendly, and Tidelands Waccamaw also is certified for childbirth by the Joint Commission.

Nursing at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital

2 East is a 28-bed medical/surgical unit. Nurses care for patients with a variety of diagnoses and medical needs, ranging from stroke and chemotherapy treatment to isolation and post-operative care.

3 East is a 29-bed medical/surgical unit where nurses care for non-critical patients with a variety of diagnoses and conditions.

4 East is a 26-bed critical care unit where nurses care for patients with respiratory failure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pneumonia, sepsis and any number of other serious illnesses requiring intensive nursing care and expert consultation with other disciplines. Nurses work closely with pharmacists, physical, occupational and speech therapists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, case managers and others to help ensure smooth and safe transitions to other levels of care as patients improve.

2 West is a 19-bed floor specializing in labor and delivery, pediatrics, urology, medical and post-surgical care. The floor includes a well-baby level 2 nursery, four labor and delivery suites and two labor and delivery observation rooms. Nearly 600 babies are delivered each year at Tidelands Waccamaw.

3 West specializes in orthopedics. Patients are cared for after total knee and total hip replacements, hip fracture and lumbar and cervical spine surgeries. Healthgrades recently rated Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital as one of America’s 100 best hospitals for orthopedic surgery in 2015 and among the top 10 percent in the nation for orthopedic services. Healthgrades also rated Tidelands Waccamaw five stars for hip fracture treatment, spine care and knee replacement services.

Tidelands Waccamaw Rehabilitation Hospital is located on the third and fourth floors of Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital. The 43-bed hospital, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, provides therapy for cardiac and orthopedic patients, as well as those recovering from stroke, amputation and spinal cord and brain injuries. 

The emergency department evaluates and treats patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatrics. The ED includes 17 beds, four of which are designated for behavioral health patients. The ED also has a fast track for non-emergent patients.

Surgical Services includes of anesthesia, operating room, pre-operative holding area, outpatient surgery, post-anesthesia care unit, sterile processing department, endoscopy and the off-site Waccamaw Surgery Center. The 24,000-square-foot surgery pavilion, located at the hospital, includes eight ORs, 14 recovery beds and 12 outpatient beds. Surgical Services serves inpatients and outpatients, providing diagnostic, endoscopic and surgical treatment for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients. 

Nursing resource team nurses “float” among various units and departments as needed, including the critical care unit, 2 East, the emergency department, outpatient services, OR, pain therapy, women’s services and house supervision, which includes covering the daily house functions of the hospital such as staffing, bed flow and response to codes.

2 East is a 23-bed unit that cares for medical, surgical, stroke and oncology patients. 2 East also includes six designated step-down unit beds.

2 Parrish is a 30-bed medical/surgical, pediatric and orthopedic unit specializing in orthopedics. Patients are cared for after total knee and total hip replacements, hip fracture and lumbar and cervical spine surgeries. Tidelands Georgetown is certified by the Joint Commission as a center of excellence in total hip and total knee replacement.

Critical care is a 10-bed unit where nurses care for patients with respiratory failure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pneumonia, sepsis and any number of other serious illnesses requiring intensive nursing care and expert consultation with other disciplines. Nurses work closely with pharmacists, physical, occupational and speech therapists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, case managers and others to help ensure smooth and safe transitions to other levels of care as patients improve.

Heart catheterization laboratory nurses assist in diagnostic heart catheterizations, emergent interventional heart catheterizations, pacemaker insertion and other procedures. The lab includes a heart catheterization procedure room, special procedures room and pre/post recovery bays. The lab participates in the Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) Action Registry.

Women’s Services has five labor and delivery rooms, 10 post-partum rooms and a well-baby Level 2 nursery. Gynecology and medical/surgical patients also are cared for on this floor, which has been recently renovated. Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital is Baby Friendly, and infants room in with moms 24/7.
The emergency department has 17 beds and handles all emergency cases, from neonates to geriatrics, with a variety of conditions and diagnoses. In addition, Tidelands Georgetown has an accredited chest pain center. 

Surgical Services includes anesthesia, operating room, pre-operative holding area, outpatient surgery, post-anesthesia care unit, sterile processing department and endoscopy. The 17,000-squarefoot department includes five ORs, nine outpatient bays and six recovery beds. Surgical Services serves inpatients and outpatients, providing diagnostic, endoscopic and surgical treatment for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients.

This group provides assistance to physicians, staff, patients and clinical directors.
